Serves in a multi-faceted role within the Deacon Family Ministry, beginning first as a family member administrator. As the Lead Deacon, he coordinates the duties and various responsibilities of the Deacons, which also includes communion and baptism duties. The goal of the Deacon Family Ministry is to ensure that all members under the Deacon Family Ministry know their Deacon, knows how to contact their Deacon, and know that their church is there for them.
The Lead Deacon serves as a primary contact when members are sick, or there is a death. The Lead Deacon is a member of the Inner Staff, in addition to serving as prayer meeting leader. The Lead Deacon serves in this capacity on a six-month rotation schedule. There is a provision that the Lead Deacon’s time could be extended if the Deacon in the rotation to advance has not satisfied the requirements to advance into the position as Lead Deacon.
LEAD DEACONESS:
Serves in a multi-faceted role within the Deacon Family Ministry, beginning first as a family member administrator, working in unity with the Lead Deacon. As Lead Deaconess, she can attend the Pastor’s Inner Staff meetings. Additional responsibilities under the coordination of the Lead Deaconess include baptism preparation for female candidates, prepare the communion table, Senior Saint Luncheon, counseling, and rendering benevolent services when needed. The Lead Deaconess prepares a yearly calendar reflecting assignments for Deaconesses as it relates to communion and baptism duties.
NEW MEMBER COORDINATORS:
Deacon and Deaconess Leads are directed to track and maintain the status of new members. The Leads will collect the information critical to the church’s files and ensure that the clerk is provided with all necessary information at the time a new member joins the church. Weekly contact is maintained with the new member.
New members are monitored by the Deacon and Deaconess Leads until they have completed new members classes. The new members are counseled to ascertain if they will be a resident of Sunday school or be assigned to a Deacon.
